Focus on Juice Packaging: Beautiful Design

It is known to the marketeers of any industry dealing with consumer products: Packaging has become one of the most important “P’s”. Its value of the first contact with the potential consumer is enormous and many companies have appointed top quality designers in order to create the most appealing packing for their products.

Being personally interested in beautiful design and professionally always interested in the different juice packages, I am a loyal reader of the website Lovely Package®.

Just the other day I was happy to see a familiar package featured on the site: That of Nichirei’s Acerola Drinks.

Through our relation with Niagro Nichirei do Brasil, I have learned a lot about Acerola over the years. Niagro’s mother company Nichirei has a leading position in Japan as supplier of Acerola based drinks and health foods. (more on Acerola soon)

Business-wise, we (INDUPRO) are involved with the sale of Niagro’s Acerola purees and concentrates, but it is very interesting to follow what Nichirei is doing in the consumer market with ready to drink products in Japan.

You can see more of his beautiful packaging design here, learn more about him and see his portfolio here.

The current development in product design, the influence of other industries (e.g. fashion) and the possibilities offered by the continuous technical development are all factors that will further enhance the wow-factor of packaging, as well as its impact in consumer decision making.

What do you think are the trends for the near future in this regard?

I worked for a Japanese trading company in the foods department. I learned that presentation is given the highest regard, among other things. Looking at the featured beverage, I would never have thought that the designer was not Japanese. And for that, I give kudos to Mr Hoffman for delivering an awesome concept. Japanese design is all about simplicity. But there is nothing simple about achieving that.

There is no trend. Design is a hit or miss. Is there really anything that hasn't been done yet?

The challenge is, was and always will be the union of design and technology without compromising cost-effectiveness.
